Missouri Businesses Feel the Symptoms of Health Coverage Challenges

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, July 15, 2009

St. Louis - With health insurance premiums climbing much faster than wages, more Missouri businesses and their employees are struggling to afford health coverage. Many employers are feeling the need to drop coverage altogether because of the cost.

To highlight these important concerns, Cover Missouri, a project of the Missouri Foundation for Health, has released “Making the Case for Health Reform,” a fact sheet examining issues faced by businesses when deciding to offer health coverage.

The fact sheet offers important data on employer-sponsored insurance, the struggles small businesses deal with in providing health coverage, and how lack of insurance impacts work productivity and staff turnover.

With more than 770,000 uninsured Missourians facing mounting health care costs and challenges, now is the time for business owners to make their voices heard. Cover Missouri’s fact sheet is intended to stimulate discussion about health care reform and suggest ways business owners can shape dialog on the subject.
